What is Stock Trading?

One way to make money, often good money, is to trade stocks. Stock trading is the buying and selling of stocks in the stock market, usually frequently. For example, stock traders may buy and sell stocks throughout the day often executing tens or hundreds of trades, depending on their objectives.

A buy and hold investor will normally by stock in a company, hold onto it for six months or longer, and sell it when they feel they have made a good profit or have found a better investment. Stock traders hold onto it for sometimes minutes, hours, days or months. Usually the more frequent stock traders hold onto stocks within a day.

How to Make Money Trading

Trading stocks in the stock market is risky. Some say that you can't make much money from it. In the end, your average out and break even. This does happen to many people. They borrow money on margin, and then continued to lose money or make back what they look lost. Buying on margin means they are using someone else's money to invest in will owe them.

Some people are successful stock traders. There are lots of programs out there that claim if you just follow along with software program you can make thousands of dollars. Honestly, you have to know what you're doing.

If you want to make money trading, you need to learn how to go about it. You need to learn about stocks, the stock market, technical analysis, and how to read charts. Stock trading is all about charts. They rarely care much about how the company is actually doing. Instead, they look at the past movement of the value of the stock on charts and use common trends to see what it will probably do next. This is called technical analysis.

If you want to make money trading, you have to be willing to take risks. Sometimes you lose money, sometimes you lose a lot of money. Other times, you may make a lot of money. But you'll always need to keep in mind that you need to know when to quit. If day after day, week after week, month after month, you keep losing money, not only will you eventually have no money to invest, but you won't be able to survive on nothing. If it isn't working for you, stop.

Can you Make Money Trading Long Term?

Stock trading is not often thought of as a good long-term moneymaking strategy. As I mentioned, it is a risk in your more likely to break even than to actually make consistent profits. Can you make money trading long-term? Maybe. Some people probably do. Does that mean you should do it? The only way to know is to give it a try and find out.

Before you go into this endeavor, make sure you have a plan. You must have enough money to actually make significant profit in the markets. Even if you are planning on borrowing money, you need to start out with a good investment of your own money. On top of that, you need to make sure you have enough money to live on for at least several months until you start making a profit. If you quit your full time job to do this full-time, you need a backup.

Also, make sure you do your research and study. Make sure you know everything about technical analysis and stock trading. Read books by authors who have been trading stocks for years and have consistently made money. Do not listen to people who speculate and don't make money. Preparation is the most important thing you can do in stock trading. Of course, other than make money.

Just a quick recommendation but buying stocks and or forex on margin really should be left for the most experienced investors. You can lose a lot of money fast (more money than you put in sometimes!) trading on margin.
